Teen Pregnancy
Also referred to as “adolescent pregnancy”, teenage pregnancy is when a woman who has not yet reached the age of adulthood becomes pregnant. These usually occur within the teenage years of 13-19. Even in earlier generations, women tend to have children even during their early teens so this is not a new social phenomenon. This may be intentional or unintentional.
Pregnancy among teenagers is an important concern. There are risks to both the mother and the baby’s health. Compared to older mothers, teenage mothers who don’t receive prenatal care are likely to have higher risks of pregnancy related complications such as anemia, pre-eclampsia, toxemia and high blood pressure. They may also face long labor or go into labor early. Low birth weight and/ or premature birth are risks for the baby. This may lead to underdeveloped organs such as the lungs, heart, and brain, respiratory distress syndrome and intestinal problems. There is also a possibility of high infant mortality rate or stillbirths. Other factors that may affect the baby’s health includes cigarette smoking, drug and alcohol abuse, iron deficiency anemia and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Teenage pregnancy is universal. As per data that supports a survey regarding this, it has been shown that in developed countries, this is rampant among those of lower education levels and with high poverty rates. This is usually outside of wedlock so it carries a social stigma in many cultures and communities. Because of this, studies are being made to uncover its causes to eradicate or limit the number of adolescent pregnancies. In the developing world wherein the culture is different, this doesn’t involve social stigma, teenage pregnancy is typically within marriage. In some societies, early marriage as well as traditional gender roles are one of the main factors in the rate of adolescent pregnancies. Take for instance in sub-Saharan Africa where pregnancy is a proof of a woman’s fertility so early pregnancy is considered a blessing. http://pregnancyconcerns.info/?p=23#more-23 |

Did you hear about those girls in that city who all planned on getting pg. together? That is crazy. My neighbor got pg. when she was like 15, she was miss popular in High School, and had to drop out. Pretty crazy.... She will be living with her parents for a long time to come. Good for you. If anyone is going to make 'that choice' I would at least make a trip to planned parenthood and talk to them first.

Thumbs up post.
My sister was a teen mom. She had my niece when she was 16 years old. I don't think she was ready, but she accepted the responsibility that came with her actions. She graduated highschool with a 4.0 believe it or not! She's now working towards her DVM degree (veternarian). I just want teen mothers out there to know that just because you have a child doesn't mean you can't better yourself in the process.

Im a teen mother i had two beautiful baby girls but one of them farrah they said shes going to have heart problems when she gets older which is very hard for me as a mom to deal with...but for now there fine....i STILL go to school and all i dont care what ppl say i just dont let it get to me! i put my childrean in daycare and there fine until i get back from school then me and my grandma go pick them up its REALLY hard to take care of my babies so my advice for any girl is......
Live your life and never trust anyone exapt your family that person could be dangerus...also enjoy your life as a teenager if your a teen and you WANT a child YOUR CRAZYYY!!! (parenting comes with responiblity) its not a joke.....and if you are ready for sex PLEASE use protection and talk to your doctor.....me.....i was NOT expecting children my friends 22 yr old brother raped me ....and that very hard for me to just say "i got raped" because it hurts! everytime i think about that night it makes me wanna cry and kill myself for allowing it to happen .....but anyway girls trust me coming FROM a REAL teen mom....pregnacy is no joke!!!!!! |

My sister is a teen mother too.
She got pregnant her senior year, finished it out and even won homecoming queen. Shes taking college classes and working her way into nursing. Shes already done so much and I couldnt be prouder of her. It was just hard for her because she was so active in sports and everything and she wasnt able to play at all. (except part of volleyball before she knew) She, like everyone else has said that before you have sex know the consequences, its not a joke, there is so much responsibility with a child. I like using her as an example, because so many people think that because they are pregnant/ have a child so young that they cant accomplish their dreams, which isnt always true, its just going to take more effort and maybe a little more time.

Your sister is amazing. Please tell her I said that.
I admire any woman/girl that gets pregnant and keeps their baby even if its harder to do so. |

I just want to tell you how much I respect you for that. I know what it's like to become pregnant through rape, but I aborted my pregnancy and still regret it now, even though I know it couldn't be possible for me to have taken care of a child, I could have at least given him/her life, but I was far too selfish and hardley even in my right mind, but that's no excuse, I still deeply regret my choice, especially now I'm unable to ever have my own children. But just one more thing, you didn't 'allow' it to happen. Rape is not the fault of the victim, no one in anyway deserves it. Please don't blame yourself.

And I totally agree with the last sentence you said. Rape is never the victims fault. You are not held accountable for what has happened to you. |

Honestly, I thought about it for about a minute and brushed it away as a stupid idea. I knew I couldn't handle pregnancy, and I was much to scared to make any decent decision. I was really deep in addiction, still grieving my boyfriend and I didn't really have anywhere to live. I chose heroin over having a child, I was very selfish, it was one of the stupiest choices I've ever made.

Well I at least admire your regret.
You took the easy way out and I couldn't judge you for that other wise I'd be a hypocrite. I'm sorry that you are not able to have your own children. |

I am a teen mum i had my little girl in april this year, and i have full parental control of my little sister who will be 1 in september. Having my baby girl was a dream come true for me as i had been pregnant before but my baby boy died before i got to the end of my pregnancy and had to deliver him knowing he was already gone. I think it's hard to judge all teen mums as in my opinion we are all different. Me and my fiance completely support ourselves live in our own house, i'm not gonna lie and say it's all a breeze it's not it's hard, i had quite a few rough times in my pregnancy which put a lot of pressure on our relationship but we pulled through it all together. I also haven't given up on my education as i am planning on going back to it when my daughters a bit older.
I think that some people go into it thinking it's gonna be easy and won't really effect their life. I knew my life would be changed forever but now it has i wouldn't change it back for anything. |
