On YouTube, I'm subscribed to a girl who speaks out on self injury.

She has almost 2,000 subscribers and she started a website which is a collection of information and resources.

I sent her a message and asked her if there was anyway she could put up our web address on her website and she approved it!


This is was the message I sent her:

Hi Melissa,

I've been watching your videos for sometime now and they're always interesting to watch.
I'm a self-injurer currently trying to recover.

I was wondering if you could take a look at this website:

I've been a member of this forum since I was about 16 years old, so almost 5 years.

There have been so many members that have joined, but never stay and traffic on the forums is low. We have forums specifically targeted towards self injury, drug abuse and eating disorders. The target age rang is 12-18 year olds, but we have a few members that have been there for so long that they're over the target age range, including myself.

The founder of the website and the administrator are very active in the website and forums, they've been through a lot of the same things that the children/teens on the forum are experiencing.

I was wondering if you could put it on your website and maybe help us get some new traffic on the website.

I checked out your support forum.
It has been added to my website. I think that's a good idea because I didnt have something on my list yet for addictions. Alcohol and drug abuse are a form of self harm.

I know I'm not as active as I used to be on the boards, but I deeply appreciate the help that I have received from all of the members here! I would definitely love to see this site flourish like it used to!

I know every little thing like that helps and she was definitely helpful enough to put us up on her page.

I found her a few months ago and have watched every single one of her videos. There was on video that she produced specifically for parents of self-injurers and I made my parents watch it shortly after my discharge from rehab back in March. I'm pretty sure they still don't fully understand, but I think it did help them to at least know that there are other people my age that engage in injuring themselves and I think they've changed their perspectives a little bit.
