Question: What is 'defragging' ?

Answer: Defragmentation is the reorganizing and compacting of file fragments on your file system.

Over time, regular computer usage results in files becoming fragmented. Little bits and pieces end up in the wrong order. Things getting moved around and deleted making gaps. This causes your computer to run more slowly. It is harder for the disk heads to read between all the spaces.

Defragmentation helps get rid of some of the spaces. Things typically run much more quickly after you 'defrag'.

How often should I do this?
It's up to you. Some people like to run it weekly, some even do it daily. Just remember, if you have not defragged for a long time, it may take a long while to run it. Just be patient and let it do it's thing. Then, remember to do it on a regular basis in the future.

Hmm. I've never heard of this myself. This could be the reason why my computer is slow!
