Prescription Addiction Radio Show

Press Release: March 15th, 2009

“Tune in Sunday, March 22nd, 2009, to listen to host Larry G. on Prescription Addiction Radio Show from 9 to 10 pm on WGUL 860 AM Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, streamed live on www.860WGUL.com.”
For Immediate Release: United States of America, March 15, 2009 –
Oxycontin, Visodin, Percocet, Lortab, Duragesic, methadone – All possibly in the hands of a nurse during their working day. AND FOR SOME NURSES – When they get off work as well. Join Larry and his guest, author and nurse, Paula Davies Scimeca, to discuss her book, “UNBECOMING A NURSE: BYPASSING THE HIDDEN CHEMICAL DEPENDENCY TRAP.” It is estimated that at least one in ten nurses will acquire a chemical dependency within their lifetime, potentially placing themselves, their career and patients at risk. Some studies estimate the prevalence is closer to one in five nurses affected. The turmoil created by any family member addicted to drugs is one Larry’s radio audience knows well.

Paula will be highlighting the challenges nurses face in their work and personal life. Most health professionals, particularly nurses, never contemplate the risk of chemical dependency and addiction to the substances they administer with professional expertise every day to countless patients nor the risk alcohol use may have on their lives.

Paula Davies Scimeca, RN, MS, has over twenty years in addiction and psychiatric nursing. With Paula’s experience and knowledge base, her book, “UNBECOMING A NURSE” is necessary in every nursing curriculum’s library. This radio show is proud to help bring attention to yet another hidden facet of the SILENT EPIDEMIC the show talks about every Sunday night.

The Prescription Addiction Radio Show – Breaking the Silence – the only radio show in America that discusses the culture of prescription drugs in our society. A favorite line by Larry G on the show: “Before the drug companies called them pain pills, they were called narcotics.” This Sunday night offers a chance for nurses to phone in their opinion.
Hosted by Larry Golbom, a registered pharmacist for over 30 years, the show is sponsored by Novus Medical Detox Center (www.novusdetox.com).

The Prescription Addiction Radio Show not only takes a cultural look at our prescription drug use in America, but is dedicated to the thousands of families who are being or have been affected by the misuse of prescription drugs. The show is dedicated to exploring some of the challenges we face in trying to turn around the explosion in misuse of prescription drugs and believes that addiction is a predisposed disease, whether created by poor personal choices or created from following the advice of your doctor. No individual wishes it upon themselves. For more info: larry@prescriptionaddictionradio.com
