The ER...ekk
Okay... Heres an add-on to all my problems haha. I've had panic attacks for awhile... usually I just get through them, no problems or anything... Well today, I was sitting around, shortly after lunch, when my chest got really cold, my heart started beating really fast (faster than with my usual panic attacks) I was shaking so bad I like, couldn't walk, couldn't breathe... I was freaking out.. so my grandma ran me to the ER... when they checked me out...my blood pressure was like 123/80 (I swore the thing said 143...but idk) However I didnt see the doctor till like 4 hours later... They concluded it was a panic attack...gave me some xanax... told me to not go to work for a few days...which sux...
I was wondering... Has anyone else ever had to go to the ER for panic attacks? |

Yes, panic attacks are often mistaken for heart attacks. They can come on very suddenly. Pedagogue can tell you much more when he returns from his vacation. But, they can be very frightening. Here's a link with some information: http://my.webmd.com/content/article/...000_0000_rl_01 Now, the fact that you're having panic attacks is a sure sign that you've got to change what your doing. Your body is giving you a signal; telling you there is a problem. What are you doing for yourself? Are you taking care of yourself physically? Emotionally? Mentally? Spiritually? Doing good things for yourself each day in these areas will help you feel better without doctors and prescriptions. Please be careful with the xanax. It is highly addictive. Let us know how it's going... (((Angelchicka))) Shalom! |

i have been taken to the ER for a panic attack. well mostly it was because my blood pressure was way up. i think it was like 180/120 not sure tho. it was a while back. teach is right you need to take care of yourself. putting your body through those can take a toll. take care.

Xanax is highly addictive? eek...lovely... They only gave me a four day supply... then I have to go to my regular doctor and find out about either changing me from the zoloft i was originally taking...So far I don't like this xanax... its been making me all sleepy... Sure, I like my sleep, but this is WAY too much sleep...even for me. I'm still working on doing stuff for myself, I haven't been able to get myself to the gym or anything yet though....hopefully I can soon... n I'm still working on finding out what I can do emotionally and mentally. |

Yes, I've been to the ER with a panic attack a long time ago. I found breathing into a paper bag works just as well as xanex and you won't get addicted to paper bags.
The thing about panic attacks is they're damn scary as you don't know what is going on, it took me a long time to recognize when they were coming on and quickly change my thinking to extreme panic to a near mantra "I'm ok, I'm ok, I'm ok, this will pass, this will pass, I'm not going to fall over, I'm not going to die, I'm not going to embarass myself by passing out"..etc. See for me I feared grocery store lines, I thought I'd fall over or pass out, but once I realized that through all those panic attacks, I never fainted, fell over, embarassed myself, I knew they'd pass and I'd be okay. I always carried a paper bag and would run to the restroom when they'd hit, run cool water on my wrists, talk myself out of it and eventually it became my method for snapping out of them. I think anyone can do the same and avoid the pills, now there are times when you have a rolling panic attack, it just isn't going away and is lasting hours, then an only then would I take my meds. But since I've quit drinking I don't have them anymore, but do know how frightening they can be. Just realize, it's a panic attack, nothing bad will happen to you, once it passes, your going to still be standing, sitting whatever, you'll not die, you'll not pass out, you WILL be fine. It's all in the head and your the one in control of that spance. Last edited by Chy; 08-02-2005 at 08:17 am. |

Just some ideas for the emotional and mental parts of ourselves.
Mental: What have you always wanted to know? How to fly a kite? Or what the physics of airplanes are. How about learning to play an instrument? Or speak a foreign language. Knit or snowboard? In short, there is so much in this life to learn, that there is literally a never ending supply. I used to read the encyclopedia. Boy, I learned alot!!! Try something for 6 months. If you don't like it, then try something else. You are not stuck to anythig, but, you should give it a fair shot, too. Otherwise, you'll go flitting from one thing to the next, and never see any accomplishments. And that's what the goal is. Becoming proficient at something....or many things. Heck, you can become a Renaissance woman! Emotional; Do you have anger management issues? Here's a link for you to check out. And if you have any questions, well, that's why we're here! How about stress? I'll bet that's why you've gotten panic attacks, right? Here's another link. http://www.ivf.com/stress.html Both of these links will start you on the path to emotional health. It can be yours, if you are willing to work for it. And you are really worth it, angelchicka... *hugs* Now, get to the gym, LOL! Shalom! |
