I'll start....

I've worn a few hats over the years, but I finally found a hat that fits. I am/was a therapist during my travels (one of the hats along the way), and now I am back in school getting my doctorate in clinical psychology. My areas of interests are eating disorders and sexual trauma as it relates to teenagers and young adults. I work with teenagers mostly, but have worked with kids as young as 2-5, and adults.

Please note that while I am on here, I am not speaking as a psychologist/therapist because I am currently in training, and not licensed. So take my words as a lay-person and with a grain of salt, and always check with your supervising doctor/therapist before making any major changes.

Ok, now it is your turn!

OK, I am a mother of 4 daughter's, 3 of which are now adults, and one 8 yr. old. I am also a grandmother of 4.....2 granddaughters and 2 grandsons and I am only 40 !! Yep that is young...lol....but well it's all part of life.

I have struggled with my weight for most of my life. Weight issues run through out my whole family. I guess mine really became a problem when my teen years set in. School and making friends was a challange. My self image took a huge beating during my middle school and high school years, so I entered my adult years making decisions and following a very unhealthy path. It wasn't until I started councling with my olde children that I became more aware of my issues and started working on me. My life has had it's up's and down's with addictions and emotional issues.

Now I work daily on being healthy and discovering just who I am and where my life is going to go. You are never too young or too old to make those good choices in life.

Hey my names Becks. I have struggled with bulimia and anorexia for about 3 years now. Its gradually becoming under control as I have realised to myself that its not something I want to continue with in life. My family and friends are unaware of my eating habits and thats the way I hope it stays. I take each day as it comes and just try to get through each day without purging and without starving myself. So far Iam doing alright and I just hope that I don't relapse in the near future.

Becks,

I am glad you are working on your eating habits. If you do not feel comfortable sharing with your family...I understand. However, they may be able to help.

I think it is important to understand as much as you can about where these eating habits/feelings have come from. I included two excellent books that were highly recommended to me. I will be reading them later this summer, but feel free to let me know how they are.

I would suggest starting with the first one.

Thanks for the books Ped. I'll have to go look around while Iam out to see if I can find them. If not I'll purchase them online. Iam really trying to control my eating habits. Some days are better than others, but I guess I can only go one day at a time.

Heya, Im Sarah,
I have had eating problems for about 2 years, I started obsessivly dieting and then developed anorexia and bulimia. I want to be healthy, Im sick of eating dissorders controlling everything I do, im sick of people staring at me and shouting at me to eat. I havnt purged for 4 weeks! And I've started eating more, about a week ago I went away, and stopped eating again (I had my reasons) but as soon asa i got home i've been trying to eat a little more each day and I ate soup and bread yesterday and resisted the erge to purge! I know it dosnt sound like much, but in 4 weeks, i feel i have made a lot of progress!
