Healthy Eating (Simple Recipes Inside!)
I decided to make a thread that has simple (and healthy) recipes that anyone can make. I know when I started cooking for myself I did NOT eat healthy, and I didn't know HOW to cook healthy. Hopefully we can get a good list going, and if we get enough posts I can sort them into catagories (Snacks, Lunch, Dinner, etc)
I'll start with some of my favorites. If anyone has any requests or wants to know how to make a favorite food, let me know! I love to cook and I am always looking for new ideas! Snacks *Peanut Butter and Apple Wedges (I prefer 'real' peanut butter that you mix, but Jiff is yummy too) *Strawberries and Lite Whipped Cream (Get Lite Cool Whip and store it in the freezer for an hour or two. It with come out thick like custard and is low cal and TOTALLY hits the sweet tooth craving) Celery and Low Fat Cream Cheese (The flavored cream cheeses work well too.) Just Wash off the celery, cut into pieces a few inches long, and fill with cream cheese. Lunch Peda-Tuna: Open a can of tuna fish into a bowl. Add some mayo, mustard (I prefer spicy mustard), chop up an onion (white or red..I like red), and mix in some shredded cheddar cheese (can buy in a bag) You can make this into a melt (SO good) by putting on top of a piece of bread and putting in the toaster oven. Finger Rolls: Take a slice of ham and add a slice of cheese and roll up. Dip in mustard or dressing. I like spicy mustard or italian dressing. Sometimes I make a wrap by using a fajita wrap. Drinks Tropical Splash 1/4 cup OJ 1/4 cup seltzer water 1 mixed fruit cup, drain the syrup...or add in if it is in juice (If you put the fruit cup in the freezer for an hour or so before hand the fruit can act like ice cubes and keep the drink cold) Peach Ice Tea You can either use the instant powder stuff OR the cold brew tea bags.....I prefer the cold brew tea bags because I don't like sweetened iced tea. Anyhow, you can do the same as above and stick a fruit cup of peaches in the freezer, and then add that to your ice tea. Suggestions/Requests are welcome! -pedagogue

I eat an organic apple with peanut butter everyday.
I know that the all natural peanut butter is a bit healthier than Skippy/JIFF types. But the seperation and mixing everytime i want to use it, is not worth the small health benefit (at least that is my opinion) And I go for flavor and consistency.... but everything is not smooth around my place, my son prefers extra chunky pb. :EMODISDis I wish Skippy would make one with organic peanuts.... A standard snack around our home.... GOLEAN Crunch! by: Kashi (Protein and High Fiber Cereal) We like it even better than the less healthy granolas. lowfat vanilla yogurt with fresh fruit; sliced bannanas, strawberries, melon, blueberries, rasberries ,apples, peaches, mangoes, pears, grapes, etc....] (like Ped mentioned, we make sure to wash fruits and vegatables before we use them.) |
